Dealer Notes

Manufactured between 1965 and 1969, the Porsche 912 was regarded as a more affordable alternative to the standard 911 model, similar in virtually every way except an engine. The 912 actually out sold the 911 by a 2:1 ratio in its first year and continued to be popular moving forward. It was not actually available in the US until the 1966 model year, but by then, many improvements had been made. The 912 was kept in production until 1969 when Porsche began producing a new and improved Porsche 914.

Built on the same chassis and body shell as the 911, the 912 had a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine which produced only 90 horsepower and a maximum speed of 119 mph. Most 911 models came with ventilated disc brakes, but the 912 has standard discs. A four-speed manual came standard and a five-speed was available as an option, but is actually seen more commonly today. It takes 11.8 seconds to go from 0-62 mph, but this time would be respectable by 1960s standards.

By the time this vehicle reached the United States in 1966, models came fitted with adjustable strut towers and a plastic reservoir for wiper fluid. The 912 script was still present on the glove box and the right side of the rear deck lid.

The 1967 912 adopted the new block script that is now synonymous with Porsche. The shift knob became a round ball, available with or without the shift pattern on the top. Two-toned visors, full carpet across the transmission tunnel, and other subtle changes found their way into the interior. This would also be the last year that 4.5-inch wheels were offered.

This particular 1967 Porsche 912 comes with just one mile on the odometer and is featured in a striking Red exterior.
